How a verdict gets made
Trace the parent
Corporate filings, acquisition news, and public registries — we follow the ownership chain to the top.
Cite the source
Every verdict links to the actual document it's based on, right on the brand's page.
Rate our confidence
High, medium, or low — we say so instead of pretending every answer is equally certain.
Take corrections
Spot an error? Report it from any brand page. We re-check before changing a verdict.
Backed by a corporate filing, registry, or credible reporting — 6,773 brands cite a source.
Backed by credible news coverage of an acquisition or ownership change.
No public record found yet — we say "unverified" instead of guessing. 212 brands.
One badge can mislead. Five can't.
"Canadian" means different things — who owns it, who controls it, and where it's actually made are separate questions. Every brand gets the badge that's true, not the one that sells.
Majority owned by Canadians, top to bottom of the ownership chain.
Run and directed from Canada, even if some shares sit abroad.
Manufactured here — regardless of who owns the company.
Processed or packaged here from ingredients that may be imported.

The full dataset — every brand, verdict, source, and check date — is free to download as a spreadsheet and free to cite with a link back. No brand pays to be listed, unlisted, or re-labelled. Ever.
Who's behind this
Hi — we're the small Canadian family business behind Chicken Pieces, a supply company in Calgary, Alberta. Since day one we've shipped food-service and facility supplies to restaurants, clinics, and businesses across the country. Nothing glamorous. Boxes, pallets, early mornings.
Here's the honest origin story: our customers kept asking us the same question. "Is this brand actually Canadian?" And too often, we didn't know. We'd look it up and find a beloved "Canadian" name that quietly got sold to a foreign parent company a decade ago — while the maple leaf stayed on the label.
That bugged us. Not because foreign-owned products are bad — plenty are excellent — but because people deserve a straight answer before they spend their money. Especially now, when so many Canadians are deliberately trying to keep their dollars at home.
JustCanadian.org doesn't sell anything. There are no ads, no paid placements, and no brand can pay us to change a verdict. We pay for it out of the supply business because we think it should exist. If we get something wrong — and with 7,013 brands, sometimes we will — tell us, and we'll fix it in the open.
That's it. That's the mission: who owns it, with a source, for free.

If you're the owner or an authorized rep, claim your brand's page to verify your ownership details, add a corporate filing as your source, and keep your entry current. Verification is always free — no brand can pay for a badge, and claiming never changes a verdict without documentation.
